Welcome the Official Fairlight Glen Sixth form Online Prospectus. Fairlight Glen is an Independent School based in Herne Bay. We work for and with our students to give them a unique, ndividualised curriculum, allowing them to focus on key interests, while building areas of strength and learning new skills along the way.

What is Mixx Lab?

Mixx Lab is the sixth form provision at Fairlight Glen, offering students the opportunity to study RSL Vocational Awards in

 Music Technology and Music Performance. It’s a vibrant, hands-on learning environment where creativity thrives and

 students gain real-world skills to prepare them for careers in the music industry.

We deliver industry-recognised qualifications that focus on music production, live performance, and a wide range of practical, creative, and technical skills. These awards are designed to give students a strong foundation in both the artistic and 

professional sides of the music world.

Our post-16 holistic music education pathway is built around a tailored, inclusive approach to learning. The programme is led by Sean Palmer, an accomplished music tutor with over 20 years of experience. Sean brings a wealth of industry knowledge, having been signed to multiple record labels and with original compositions placed in TV and film music libraries. His expertise covers music production, live performance, and songwriting, offering students valuable professional insight.

What sets Mixx Lab apart is Sean’s personalised teaching style, which ensures that every student, including those with

 Autism, Asperger’s syndrome, Tourette’s syndrome, or other SEN, can thrive in a supportive and empowering

 environment.

What Facilities Does Mixx Lab Offer?

Students interested in music performance will have access to a wide range of high-quality instruments, including a full 5-piece drum kit, electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, and ukuleles. We also have a state-of-the-art vocal booth, professionally equipped for students who wish to incorporate singing into their musical journey with us.

Our facilities extend beyond the classroom with an outdoor stage area, where students can showcase their talents during our annual summer performance event—a celebration that includes live music, food, and even a BBQ!

For students who are more focused on music production, we offer access to a fully equipped professional recording studio, complete with the latest industry-standard equipment and Apple Mac computers loaded with cutting-edge software. 

These students also play a vital role in our live summer performances by helping to produce and manage the live sound, giving them real-world experience in live event production.

Under the expert guidance of Sean Palmer, every student gains hands-on, practical experience in both live performance and music production, building confidence and skills for a future in the music industry.

Our friendly, experienced staff are fully DBS-checked and committed to making learning engaging, fun and accessible for all.

In addition to the music qualifications, students will also work towards gaining Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English at entry levels 1, 2 and 3 helping to boost their confidence and prepare them for further education, employment and

everyday life.
